About Pratt Institute

Pratt Institute is a private art college in New York City located in Brooklyn, which is the most populous borough in New York City, as well as the second largest in area, its population being estimated at a number of approximately 2.5 million people.

Pratt is one of the leading undergraduate art schools in the United States and is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD). It gets its name from Charles Pratt (1830-1891), who was an early pioneer of the natural oil industry in the United States and who, in 1886, founded and endowed the Institute, which opened in 1887.

The college offers its students `an educational approach that believes that your generation will need to integrate your individual talent, artistic senses, and poetic vision with the pragmatic challenges of our nation and our world`, which includes programs in Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Digital Arts, Creative Writing, Library and Information Science, and other areas.

Athletics

Pratt's athletic teams are known as the Cannoneers and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are black and cadmium yellow.
